Practice Assist

Care UK has a long and successful history of partnering the NHS with support services and we are the largest independent provider of NHS services in the country.

Our out-of-hours services provide support for over 5 million people, while each month our NHS 111 call handlers answer more than 225,000 calls to the NHS urgent healthcare line. Our NHS 111 services, throughout the busy winter months, all featured in the top one-third of performance charts for providers who answered calls or called back patients within agreed times.

Practice Assist is our latest, innovative service designed to help practice partners run their surgeries more effectively and efficiently.
With our background in urgent care and our tried and trusted network of healthcare professionals we are ideal partners, helping to bring resilience to any practice. Working in partnership with GPs across the country, we are helping practices to enhance their call-handling and appointment prioritisation. Our team of UK-registered doctors and call handlers help surgeries to improve access for patients and offer genuine flexibility and choice.

Practice Assist offers clinical effectiveness and administrative efficiency through a dedicated centralised hub that offers GPs additional flexible capacity and extended opening hours. Practices using our service see waiting times for appointments reduce from weeks to hours.

The system works in partnership with your existing practice team to provide patients with telephone consultations outside of normal opening hours or during busy periods. Our team of experienced Care UK GPs have the ability to make onward referrals and update patient records. Patient feedback shows the ability to request call backs within agreed time slots is particularly popular with those who do not want or need to come into the surgery.

Other advantages include:

  • Quality assurance guaranteed: fully CQC registered, including a regular comprehensive audit schedule.
  • Full read-write access to patient records, including electronic prescriptions sent directly to a patient’s local pharmacy.
  • Trained and experienced GPs supported by a robust quality framework.
  • Remote support provided to practices during exceptionally busy periods, such as winter pressures.
  • The vast majority of patients’ concerns are fully resolved over the phone and to the highest of standards.
